The Detroit Red Wings

This week I am writing about the Detroit Red Wings. I have grown up watching all Michigan sports throughout my childhood. I have been to the Joe Lewis Arena to watch them play live. Since I was young and been watching the Detroit Red Wings play they have always been pretty good, and have even won the Stanley cup a couple times throughout my childhood. I believe all together in the history of the Detroit Red Wings they have 10 Stanley Cup Wins.

When I remember starting to actually understanding the game and what was going on is the season of the 2000-01 season.  That season the Detroit Red Wings had the second best season but were knocked out of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Kings.  In the off-season the team made some changes and in the 2001-02 seasons the Detroit Red Wings did awesome as a team and won the Stanley Cup for the tenth time.   In the 2002-03 seasons the Detroit Red Wings made it to the playoffs but were swept by the Mighty Ducks.  In the 2003-04 season the Detroit Red Wings were also made it to the playoffs and lost to the Nashville Predators. In the 2004-05 season there was a NHL lockout and the whole season was cancelled.  The 2005-06 Season the Detroit Red Wings made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs but were eliminated. In the 2006-07 the same thing went on made it to the playoffs but where eliminated, but in the 2007-08 season they once again took the Stanley Cup. In the 2008-09 they made it to the Stanley Cup playoffs losing the cup in game 7 at home. In the 2009-10 and the 2010 -11 season the Detroit Red Wings made it to the playoffs but lost. Now I am hoping for a better 2011-12 season. They have always been a good team since I can remember but they need a little more of something so they can get that Stanley Cup win in the last couple years.

The Detroit Pistons

I have chosen to write about the Detroit Pistons.  I have grown up watching the Detroit Pistons from my TV at home to going to the Palace  of Auburn Hills in Detroit and watching them play live. In the last couple of years the Detroit Pistons have not been doing very good as a team. Back in 2004 they were the champions and every year after that they made it to the NBA finals until the 2008-09 season when they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs. Every year since the 2008-2009 the Detroit Pistons have struggle tremendously, there were a great deal of changes made to the team after the 2007-08 season  when Joe Demars  decided that there needed to be some changes made because they made it to the finals every year since winning the championship but could not get the championship again.

The season 2008-09 where Joe Demars made the changes, started a unlucky streak for the team.  In 2008-09 season they made it to the playoffs, but got swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers. In the next season 2009-10 they were eliminated from the playoffs and had their worst record since 1994. In the 2010-11 season the Detroit Pistons did a little bit better by a few games but still didn’t make it to the playoffs for the second season in a row.  In the April of 2011 the team has been sold to Tome Gores and they have hired a new coach for the 2011-12 season. The 2011-12 season is about ready to start in November.  On October 4, 2011 the NBA canceled the remainder of the pre-season games. Hopefully with the new coach and new owner, this season is a better season then the past two years have been for the team.

The Detroit Tiger's

For blog number two I decided to talk about the Detroit Tiger's and their success through the past years.  The Tiger’s overall season record increased this season by 14 games.  In 2010 the Tigers went 81 – 81 with a win percentage of .500, and in 2011 the Tigers finished with a 95 – 67 record with a win percentage of .586.  This is the same record that the Tigers had in 2006 when they lost in the World Series to the underdog St. Louis Cardinals in five games, gaining only one victory in the series.  The 2011 All Stars game saw five players from the Tigers for the American League.  On September 16 this year, the Tigers clinched the American League Central Division title, with 11 games still left in the regular season.  This tied a Tiger record with the 1984 team; the last Tigers team to win the World Series.  Jason Verlander has had a great season for the Tigers as their main starter in the pitcher position.  On May 7, 2011 Verlander threw his second career no hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays.  It was not until the next game did Verlander finally have a hit put against him, going almost 16 innings without a single hit.  Last season Verlander had a good season ending with 18 wins.  On Aug 27 of this season Verlander became the first Tiger pitcher since the 1991 season to win 20 games in one season.  That same game Verlander was the first Tiger pitcher since 2002 to win 20 games before the end of August.  The home crowd attendance has also gone up this season due to the success that the Tigers have been having this season.  In 2010 the attendance for home games was almost 2.5 million people.  In 2011 the attendance rose to over 2.6 million people; an increase of almost 300 thousand people.

The Detriot Lions

I chose to write about the Detroit Lions because I have been a sport watcher and player my whole life.  I grew up in the town of Millington Michigan and have played football and baseball until I graduated in the class of 2011 .   In my next blog I am going to be writing about my favorite professional sports team the Detroit Tigers but until then we’ll get back to the main focus of this blog the Lions! Throughout my blog I am going to talk about some statistics and how I believe the Detroit Lions are going to do this year.
If you follow sports especially football more than likely this blog should catch your interest.
We all have followed The Detroit Lions throughout the years as they have struggled for success.  Now 2011 has come around and they are destine for greatness. The Detroit Lions made a new team record with an awesome performance in their last game against the Chief's. Now the Lions club will attempt to achieve a pair of franchise firsts this century when they visit Mall of America Field for Sunday's divisional clash with the Minnesota Vikings.

The 47 to 3 win against the Kansas City Chief's was the largest margin won game by Detroit and has the team feeling confident yet focused.  It has been a century before Detroit has had a 3-0 start and this upcoming Sunday they will get a chance to change that against the Minnesota Vikings who have blown halftime leads in each of its first two contests, a Week 1 loss at San Diego followed by last Sunday's frustrating 24-20 home defeat to Tampa Bay.  My prediction for the Lions this year is that if Stafford can stay healthy we will have a great chance to make it to the playoffs.
